Share guest Wi-Fi with a QR code

Create a Wi-Fi code while keeping guest access separate from private network credentials.

Use credentials intended for guests

A Wi-Fi QR code contains the network details you enter. It is a convenient way to share a password, not a way to hide one. Anyone who can photograph or scan the image may be able to read those details. Use a guest network if your router supports one, and follow your router's instructions for separating guest access from private devices.

Enter the network exactly

  1. In Waterlil, choose Wi-Fi and enter the network name (SSID). Preserve capitalization and spaces.
  2. Choose the security type that matches the network. The WPA option is intended for common personal-network credentials. Actual joining support depends on the phone, router and security mode.
  3. Enter the password, or choose Open network only if the network genuinely has no password.
  4. Select Hidden network only when the router is configured that way.
  5. Generate and download the image, then test it on a device that is not already connected.

The generator handles reserved characters in the encoded Wi-Fi format. Enter an ordinary password as it is; do not add your own backslashes to escape punctuation. Enterprise networks with individual usernames, certificates or additional authentication are outside this generator's simple Wi-Fi form.

Example: a guest information card

For an imaginary guest network named Studio Guest, enter that name and the real password from the router settings. Keep the code in an appropriate guest area rather than publishing it on a public webpage. Label it “Join guest Wi-Fi” so it is not confused with your website or booking code.

If scanning does not connect

First try joining manually with the same details. If manual joining fails, check the network configuration or password. If it succeeds but scanning fails, try another device and confirm the selected security mode. Some devices require confirmation or do not support the same Wi-Fi QR convention.

When the password changes

Generate a new code and remove old cards. The exported code does not update automatically. Waterlil processes credentials in your browser, but the downloaded image, printer files and any emails containing it can still expose them. Handle those copies as you would a written password.
