Create your first QR code

A complete Waterlil walkthrough, from choosing a content type to checking a downloaded code.

Start with the action you want a visitor to take

A QR code stores information that a scanning app can interpret. A website code opens a link; a text code shows a message. Email, phone and SMS codes can hand details to a compatible app, usually with a confirmation step. Wi-Fi codes can help a compatible device join a network. Scanner behavior varies, so test the action on the devices your audience uses.

For a menu, use Website and enter a public menu address. Do not paste the menu text into the website field or use a file path from your own computer. Waterlil does not upload or host PDFs. Publish your document first, then use its public link.

A first code, step by step

  1. Open the generator and select Website. Paste the complete address, including https://.
  2. Open that address in a private browser window. If it requires your account, guests will not have the same access.
  3. Keep the dark default color and Standard (M) error correction for your first attempt.
  4. Select Generate QR code. The initial example is replaced by your code and the download buttons become available.
  5. Download PNG for a document editor or SVG for a print layout that supports vector graphics.
  6. Scan the saved file on another screen or a printed proof. Check the actual destination, not just whether a notification appears.

What changes after export?

If you edit a field or an appearance option, Waterlil disables downloads until you generate again. This helps prevent an old image being mistaken for your latest version. The downloaded file itself cannot be edited to point somewhere else. You can, however, update the content at a website address you control while keeping that address unchanged.

Keep a record outside the generator

Waterlil has no saved-code account or scan history. Keep your original URL, export file and print artwork together. Use a descriptive filename such as summer-menu-front-desk.svg. Do not encode access tokens, private document links or confidential text into a publicly displayed image.
